How soon should I purchase my bridal gown before the wedding date? Most wedding gowns are made to order from the designer or if you are having one custom made. Most bridal deliveries are between 3 and 6 months and you will also need to consider time for alterations. Therefore, we suggest you purchase your gown at least 6 to 9 months prior to the wedding date.
Do I need to make an appointment to visit a bridal shop? This will vary from shop to shop. Most bridal salons prefer you make an appointment to better serve you and your bridal party.
Can I bring a camera with me when trying on gowns? Every shop has their own policy. However, most shops do not allow picture taking of their designs. Call prior to making your appoinment to verify this policy. *For your reference, TLC Bridal Boutique does allow picture taking during bridal appointments.
Can I purchase my wedding gown "off the rack"? Every bridal shop has their own policies about selling off the rack - as you begin to visit different shops this is a good question to ask. Some shops will offer a discount if you purchase a sample gown.
Are there any set rules on purchasing a "white" bridal gown? Quite the opposite these days. Because every bride wants to look her absolute best on her wedding day, more brides are considering other color options that will best complement her skin tone. Today, many dresses are available in everything from ivory to red, pink to peach, antique golds, and more. Experiment and have fun! You may be surprised what ends up being the best choice for you.
Should I purchase my wedding gown before the bridesmaids? Yes. Since the bride's dress sets the tone for the entire wedding party, you will want to select your gown first.
Once I choose my bridal gown, what should be considered before selecting the bridesmaids gowns? Bridal styles have changed, you may select a gown that is romantic, sophisticated--or even downright sexy. Remember - the bride's gown sets the tone for the entire wedding party. In general, the bridesmaid dresses should be similar in style and formality to your dress (complementing your dress only...not overpowering....this is your day to be the center of attention). If you gown is formal and has a train, your bridesmaids might be floor-length and include some formal accessories. If you have simple informal wedding gown, your bridesmaid gowns may be cocktail style dresses. The bridal shop you choose should be able to consult with you on the overall appearance you are looking to achieve and help with specific styles and colors.
*It is important to allow enough lead time when ordering bridesmaids gowns. Typical delivery is approximately 10-14 weeks on bridesmaids gowns. You will also need to consider alteration time and costs. Therefore, we highly recommended you purchase bridesmaids gowns at least 4 to 6 months prior to the wedding date. However, most manufacturers offer a "rush cut" on these gowns for a small fee (approximately $15.00 to 25.00 additional fee) for a 4-6 week delivery.
What should the mothers of the wedding wear? Traditionally, the mother of the bride typically selects her gown first and will let them other of the groom know of her selection. This should be done so each mother is coordinated in style, formality and color. Most mother of the wedding gowns are cut from the designers each season. Therefore, you will want to let the mothers know when it is time to start shopping.
